I was serving with the Canadian
army battle group in Somalia in 1992. My platoon was moving up towards
Belet Uen to join the battalion. As I was the battalion mortar platoon,
I had the only indirect fire support available for 200 miles. At
one point I looked up and saw what I think was an Intruder from
the USS America. Right there I knew that if we really got into trouble
I could get out of it with help from that winged friend. At times
I haven't got much use for Americans but that day I couldn't complain.
