=Cruise of Aug.2002-May 2003 was the worst. We lost two shipmates very tragically. A team of guys were on the flight deck playing football on a boring rough water day. A guy went to catch the football, and landed wrong when the ship rocked slightly, causing him to slide down the missle ramp, sending him overboard. After many rotations and vigerous man overboard drills, he was never found. The second shipmate, a HM1, was caught under the welldecks when he was assisting with the LCACS. The remains were proven to be his. I am very greatful to have served on that mighty warship, and pray the f amilies will be comforted.
