USS Concord Personal Stories

11/23/42--1.20/46 Email= mlaw2@cox.net I went into the Navy in November 1942, I was 15 years old at the time. Let me say this now I spent the best 3and 1/2 years of my life in the Navy. I went aboard the Light Cruiser USS CONCORD CL-10 on Sept.23rd 1943 with Rear Adm Richard E. Byrd we were surveying south sea islands for air bases. On oct.7th 1943we had a gasoling explosion killing 24 of my shipmates. We have a ships reunion every year 58 reunions so far I have been president of four of them. I married my pen pal in Nov.1945 and we are still married with 4 wonderful children. Our last Anerversity was our 57th. My God bless all the Sailors that served on this wonderful ship.
