Personal Experiences
USS NIAGRA FALLS AFS-3
I wasn't stationed on the Ranger, but rather on the Supply ship USS Niagara Falls during the Viet Nam era. Our job was to supply other naval ships at sea via high-line transfer and helicopter "vertrep". During my three West Pac cruises we resupplied many carriers, but it was the Ranger that I will always remember. When she came alongside she would play the William Tell Overture over loudspeakers that boomed over the open sea. Everyone on board our ship would come "topside" to see the awesome sight of this majestic shop gliding into place alongside us with that glorious music playing. Long live the Ranger. |
