Military

Papua New Guinea has a relatively small military force consisting of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF), which is responsible for the defense and security of the country. The PNGDF is composed of the Papua New Guinea Army, the Papua New Guinea Air Force, and the Papua New Guinea Maritime Element.

The Papua New Guinea Army is the largest component of the PNGDF, with a reported strength of around 2,000 personnel. Its primary role is to defend Papua New Guinea's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to support national development programs. The army is also responsible for maintaining internal security and providing disaster relief assistance when required.

The Papua New Guinea Air Force operates a small fleet of aircraft, including transport planes and helicopters, and has a reported strength of around 500 personnel. The air force's primary role is to provide air support to the army and other government agencies and to conduct search and rescue operations.

The Papua New Guinea Maritime Element is responsible for maintaining maritime security and protecting Papua New Guinea's exclusive economic zone. It has a small fleet of patrol boats and a reported strength of around 500 personnel.

In addition to the PNGDF, Papua New Guinea has a small police force, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, which is responsible for maintaining law and order throughout the country. The police force has a reported strength of around 7,000 personnel and is also responsible for protecting Papua New Guinea's borders and carrying out anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operations.
