Estonians are a Finno-Ugric people whose language is closely related to Finnish and unrelated to the Slavic and Baltic tongues around them. A large ethnic Russian minority, concentrated in the northeast and Tallinn, dates largely from the Soviet era.
Estonia is among the least religious countries in the world, with a small Lutheran and Orthodox Christian presence.
Estonia has high literacy, strong education results, and extensive digital public services, but a small and slowly declining population that immigration only partly offsets.
