Uganda is ethnically diverse, with the Baganda the largest of many groups. English and Swahili are official languages, with Luganda and others widely spoken. It also hosts one of Africa's largest refugee populations.

Christianity is the dominant faith, with a significant Muslim minority and traditional beliefs.

Uganda has one of the world's youngest and fastest-growing populations, with rising but modest literacy, and is praised for its generous treatment of refugees even as political freedoms are constrained.
