Tunisia

Tunisians are overwhelmingly Arab-Berber, with a strong, relatively homogeneous national identity. Arabic is the official language, and French is widely used.

Islam, predominantly Sunni, is the state religion, in one of the Arab world's more secular-leaning societies, with small Jewish and Christian communities.

Society

Tunisia has high literacy and a relatively educated population, but high youth unemployment and economic frustration — the spark of the 2011 uprising — persist.
