The guided missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) leads a formation of ships in the Baltic Sea after departing the Polish port of Gdynia on June 5, 2001, during Exercise Baltic Operations 2001. Baltic Operations 2001 is intended to improve interoperability with Baltic Sea Nations and Partnership for Peace countries by conducting a peace support operation at sea. This includes exercises in gunnery, replenishment-at-sea, undersea warfare, radar tracking, mine countermeasures, seamanship, search and rescue, and maritime interdiction operations. The Kitty Hawk is the first U.S. aircraft carrier to moor at the pier which is one of the few piers in thePacific that is large enough to berth a carrier and only one of two located in Southeast Asia.
