Qatari citizens are a small minority in their own country: the population is dominated by an expatriate workforce from South Asia, the Arab world, and beyond. Arabic is official and English widely used.

Islam is the state religion, with most Qataris following a conservative Sunni tradition.

Society

Qatari nationals enjoy enormous wealth and extensive welfare, while the economy and construction depend on migrant labor, whose conditions have drawn international scrutiny.
