Norway is one of the world's wealthiest nations, its prosperity built on North Sea oil and gas, whose revenues have been channeled into the world's largest sovereign wealth fund — worth well over a trillion dollars — for future generations.
Outside the EU but inside its single market, Norway combines petroleum wealth with a generous welfare state and leads in hydropower and electric-vehicle adoption, even as it manages the transition away from fossil fuels.
The economy is dominated by oil and natural gas (Norway became an even more vital European supplier after the loss of Russian gas), hydropower, fishing and aquaculture (the top salmon exporter), shipping, and metals.
