Montenegrins are closely related to neighboring Serbs; identity is fluid, and people variously identify as Montenegrin or Serb, alongside Bosniak, Albanian, and Croat minorities. Montenegrin and closely related South Slavic speech is used throughout.
The dominant faith is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, with Muslim and Catholic minorities.
Montenegro has high literacy and a relatively stable population, with less demographic decline than many Balkan neighbors, buoyed by its tourism economy.
