Lithuania is a high-income EU and eurozone member with one of the region's faster-growing economies, having diversified successfully since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
It has built a notable fintech and laser-technology sector and, like its Baltic neighbors, severed its former energy and trade dependence on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
Important sectors include refining and chemicals, furniture and wood products, food and beverages, machinery, lasers and biotechnology, and a fast-growing financial-technology industry.
