Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz, a Turkic people with a nomadic heritage, form the majority, with Uzbek and Russian minorities. Kyrgyz and Russian are both official languages.

Most Kyrgyz are Sunni Muslim, practiced alongside older traditions, in a secular state.

Society

Kyrgyzstan has high literacy inherited from the Soviet era and a young population, but widespread poverty drives heavy labor migration abroad.
