Hungary is a developed, upper-middle-income EU economy deeply integrated into European, particularly German, manufacturing supply chains, with the automotive and electronics sectors at its core.
The government has aggressively courted foreign investment, including major Asian battery and carmaker plants, while clashing with the EU over rule-of-law disputes that have frozen some funding. Hungary keeps its own currency, the forint.
Key sectors include motor vehicles and parts, electronics and battery manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, machinery, and agriculture and food processing.
