Cyprus is a high-income EU and eurozone economy on a divided Mediterranean island, with the internationally recognized government in the Greek-Cypriot south and a Turkish-Cypriot north recognized only by Turkey.
The southern economy is services-based — tourism, shipping, and financial services — and recovered from a severe 2013 banking crisis that required an EU bailout.
Key sectors include tourism, financial and professional services, shipping (Cyprus has a large ship registry), real estate, and newly discovered offshore natural gas.
