Croatia is a developed, high-income EU member whose economy leans heavily on services, above all tourism along its spectacular Adriatic coast.
It joined the EU in 2013 and adopted the euro and entered the Schengen area in 2023, milestones that have boosted trade and travel. Tourism revenues, while lucrative, leave the economy exposed to seasonal and global swings.
Beyond tourism, the economy includes shipbuilding, food and beverages, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, machinery, and agriculture, with growing IT and pharmaceutical firms.
