The population is mostly Bantu, with the Kongo the largest group, plus others and small numbers of Indigenous forest peoples. French is the official language, with Kituba and Lingala widely spoken.
Christianity is the dominant faith, blended with traditional beliefs.
The Republic of the Congo is highly urbanized for the region, concentrated in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, with a young population and oil wealth unevenly shared.
