Cambodia

Cambodia is ethnically homogeneous, overwhelmingly Khmer and Khmer-speaking, with Cham (Muslim), Vietnamese, Chinese, and hill-tribe minorities.

Theravada Buddhism is the state religion and a cornerstone of Khmer culture.

Society

Cambodia has a young population and rising literacy, but the genocide of the 1970s — which killed perhaps a quarter of the population, especially the educated — left deep scars still felt today.
