Bangladesh is among the most densely populated countries on earth, overwhelmingly ethnic Bengali and Bengali-speaking, giving it strong linguistic and cultural unity. It also hosts over a million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.
The population is predominantly Sunni Muslim, with a significant Hindu minority and smaller communities.
Bangladesh has made remarkable gains in health, female education, and life expectancy, though it remains a lower-middle-income country with a very large and youthful population.
