August 2 - Four churches in Baghdad and one in Mosul were attacked by car bombings. 11 people including 2 children were killed.

August 18th - Five American soldiers were killed in different parts of Iraq.

August 26th Muqtada al-Sadr's militia agrees to withdraw from holy city of Najaf after three weeks of heavy fighting with U.S. and Iraqi troops.
