1949 F-86 Sabre Fighter Introduced

 

The North American Aviation F-86 was introduced into service in 1949. The plane was designed to be an air superiority fighter. During the Korean War the Chinese Mig 15 intervened and the F-86 were rushed to Korea to ensure continued US air superiority. The F-86 was produced in a number of variations including F86 A, D, E, F H, K and L. A total of 5,893 were acquired by the US airforce and 8,681 were produced for worldwide sales.
