2005 Delta and Northwest Airlines Both Declare Bankrupcy

On September 14th 2005 both Delta and Northwest Airlines declared bankrupcy. Delta's debt was 28.3 billion dollars and its bankrupcy was widely expected. Northwest whose debt stood at 17.92 billion dollars was unexpected. The year steep rise in oil prices which spiked due to the hurricane Katrina forced both airlines to take action.
