On April 5, 1614, Indian Princess Pocahontas was baptized and then wed to farmer John Rolfe. Pocahontas' father, Indian chief King Powhatan, did not attend the wedding, although he did approve of the marriage. The marriage cemented the relationship between the Native Indians and the settlers and was key to the success of the colony. Pocahontas died three years later, while visiting Great Britain.
