May 27, 2009-Israeli Justice Continues To Move At a Glacial Pace
The cogs and sprockets of Israeli justice continue to turn at the speed of a tortoise. The police interrogated Foreign Minister Lieberman for the fifth time. In a month or two, no doubt, the police will recommend he be indicted and the state's attorney general will then take a few months to decide whether or not to really indict him. So, some time in the Fall Lieberman may be indicted. Meanwhile, Israel gets to have Lieberman as Foreign Minister.
There was a spirited debate in the Knesset today, in which Netanyahu was forced by parliamentary protocol to be there. Livnin attacked him in the strongest terms. She called on him to tell the country what he really believes in, they do not know, one day he says one thing then another, she stated she knew what he really believes and that is why she is not in the coalition.
Zevulun Orlev from the "Bayit Hayhedi" party has introduced legislation that would make it illegal to call for ending Israel's status as a Jewish state. When Yair London interviewed him, he could not understand what was wrong with his legislation. Orlev argued that no one in the US would criticize the US like Arab Israelis criticize Israel. London tried to explain to him about the US supreme CT ruling that it was ok to burn the flag. Orlev did not get it all.
