Israeli News: A Daily Analysis May10, 2009-Syrian Terror in Iraq Enrages Obama Administration, Budget Talks Continue

A Daily Analysis

May 14, 2009-Netanyahu Meets Abdullah.

Prime Minister Netanyahu paid a quick visit to Jordan to meet with King Abdullah. Netanyahu tried to sell his economic peace initiative to the King. Abdullah demanded that Netanyahu accept the concept of a two state solution. He publically stated that economic progress is not a substitute for a political solution. According to reports Netanyahu was evasive in his response. There are two possibilities, either the Prime Minister is the most brilliant negotiator and is waiting for his meeting with President Obama to announce his support for the two state solution, or he is heading for a major confrontation with the US Administration.

There was an article in the in Ha’aretz today that Leon Panetta the head of the CIA paid a secret visit to Israel last month to warn Netanyahu not to surprise the US administration with an attack on Iran. Supposedly the Israeli government assured him that it would not.

The latest opinion polls show a precipitous drop in support for Netanyahu. Only 26% of the public thinks he is doing a good job. That is down to the level of support that Olmert had after the Lebanon War.
