April 6, 2009--President Obama Reaffirms His Commitment to Two State Solution

President Obama spoke in Turkey today. He made his position as clear as possible. The United States is committed to a two states solution and the creation of a Palestinian state alongside of Israel. He also made it clear that Israel is committed to the Annapolis process and must go forward with that. This was a clear statement aimed at the Minister of Foreign Relations Avigdor Lieberman regarding his remarks about Annapolis. For the moment Prime Minister Netanyahu has responded with a statement welcoming President Obama’s commitment to peace and offering to work with him. Of course, Prime Minister Netanyahu does not have any plans at the moment. He has a little over a month until his expected meeting with Obama to work out a plan that he can sell to the American President.
