April 12, 2010- Syria Supplies Hezbollah With Massive Quantites of Arms, Iran Sanctions Update

The source of the recent tension on the Northern Israeli border between Israel, Syria, and Lebanon was disclosed today, when a Kuwaiti newspaper revealed that Syria was transporting large quantities of arms to Hezbollah. The United States warned Syria to stop its actions, but other than not returning its Ambassador to Damascus as planned, it seems powerless to do more. Observors believe the transfers are part of a plan by Iran to arm Hezbollah to the teeth. The goal being, to allow Iran to open a direct front against Israel from Lebanon, in case Israel or the United States attacks Iran.

The Obama Administration has decided to ratchet down the public pressure on Israel for the moment. They have concluded it is counter-productive toward gaining support for sanctions against Iran. Those sanctions look more and more lame-- as Russian Prime Minister Medved said today, that while he favors sanctions, they should not hurt the Iranian people. On the other it looks like President Obama has convinced the Chinese ot go along with sanctions, so we will have to see what develops in the next few weeks.
