Great Locomotives

ConcordKS

This compund locomotive was designed by Geore S Stong, in a quest for a perfectivly balanced locomotive that would create the minimum shock to the rails. The locomotive has special compund and balancing fetures. Instead of a firebox there two corrugated flues that made a joint furnace. What makes the engine most interesting however is the arrangment of the cylinders. They are located between the frames under the smoke box and transmit power through a crank axle. The low pressure cylinders were outside the frames in position of the cylinder os a simple locomotive. The cranks were so arranged that the inisde crank pin was diametrically opposite to teh outside crank pn on the same same side.
