Wave Sch

The first Wave—a schooner-rigged yacht built in 1832 in New York City by Brown & Bell—was purchased by the Navy in 1836 for use in the Seminole Indian insurrection. In that campaign, she cruised the Florida coast in support of Army operations until 1840. After that time, she served as a surveying vessel along the Atlantic seaboard under the command of Lt. J. R. Goldsborough. In his History of the American Sailing Navy, Howard I. Chapelle suggests that she was sold in 1846. However, no evidence has been found to corroborate or refute that assertion.
