Thetis II SP-391

Thetis II (SP-391: dp. 97.6; 1. 127'; b. 16'4"; dr. 7'6" (aft); s. 12 k.; cpl. 17; a. 2 3-pars., 2 mg.)

The second Thetis (SP-391)—a steam yacht built in 1901 at Neponset, Mass., by George Lawley & Sons— was purchased by the Navy from Charles H. Fuller of Pawtucket, R.I., on 23 June 1917 and commissioned on 9 July 1917. Thetis remained on the Navy's active list for almost two years. During that time, she served as a section patrol boat in the 2d Naval District and patrolled the New England coast between Chatham Mass., and New London, Conn. Her duty during World War I probably consisted of maintaining a watch along the coast for German U-boats and mines. She was decommissioned soon after the end of the war, and her name was struck from the Navy list on 31 March 1919. On 19 July 1920, she was sold to Mr. Herman Lee Meader of New York City.
