Palatha (YTB-801) was laid down 29 November 1968 by Southern SB Corp., Slidell, La.; launched 19 August 1969 and delivered 7 November 1969, to the 5th Naval District.

Palatka is a Large Harbor Tug specially eonfigured to berth and doek nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers. She is also equipped to provide emergency rescue and other services. Though not a commissioned vessel, Palatha will serve quietly but relentlessly through many years of hard work for the U.S. Navy.
