The third Republican debate took place on August 12th. All the announced candidates took part. Observers believed that there were no clear winners to the debate, but that Michelle Bachmann remained the strongest candidate at the end of the debate. The Republican candidates attacked each other more then in previous debates, and each was more insistent then the other that any deal on the deficit could include no new revenue
