December 10, 2011-The Republican candidates held their 11th debate in Des Moines Iowa. The debate was the first in which Newt Gingrich was the clear leader of the field, polling significanly ahead of all of his rivals. The debate included repeated attacks on Gingrich by the other candidates. Gingrich was attacked both for his personal life as well as his recent comments that Palestinians were not a real people.
