March 19- 26
It was suppose to be the week of the continued Republican attacks on John Kerry, but it was instead a week in which the President was force to play defense- not against Kerry but against the book authored by and subsequent testimony by Richard Clarke before the 9/11 Commission. Clarke who was in charge of anti-terrorism under both Clinton and Bush ( before 9/11) was highly critical of Bush Administrations handling of terrorism prior to 9/11. His claim was that terrorism was not a high enough priority in the first months of the administration. He further criticized the war in Iraq, claiming it was a distraction from the war on terrorism. The Bush Administration responded by attacking Clarke's motives.
