"Pride and Prejudice" Authored by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice, one of the best-loved novels in English literature, was written by the English author Jane Austen and first published in 1813. The book follows the spirited Elizabeth Bennet and the proud Mr Darcy as misunderstandings, social pressures, and growing affection shape their relationship.
Through sharp wit and finely observed social comedy, Austen examined questions of marriage, class, and reputation in the genteel society of early nineteenth-century England. Her ironic narration and acute insight into character gave the novel a wit and psychological subtlety that have kept it perennially popular.
Austen wrote several other celebrated novels, including Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma, and the posthumously published Persuasion and Northanger Abbey. Though she published anonymously in her own day, she came to be regarded as one of the greatest novelists in the English language.
