President Obama Announces Troop Surge

After weeks of deliberation President Obama announced that he was ordering an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan. In a speech before cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point NY, the President explained his policy. That policy included regaining the initiative against the Taliban, training more Afghani troops and working with Pakistan. He also announced that a year after the troops arrived a transition would begin to handing off responsibility for the war to the Afghanistan army. Full Speech
