October 1963- President Kennedy's Schedule


 

1 President Kennedy began his day with a Legislative Leader Breakfast. The President met with Thorkil Krisensen the Secretary General of the OECD. A National Security Council Meeting was the next even to the Presidents calendar. The President next met with David Ormsby-Gore the Ambassador of Great Britain. The President and First Lady went to Union Station to meet Haile Selassie the Emperor of Ethiopia. After lunch the President met with Haile Selassie and his entourage. The President next met with Clark Clifford. The Presidents next meeting was with George Wall, Llewellyn Thomspon and McGeorge Bundy. The President next hosted a State Dinner for Ethiopian Ambassador.
2 The President signed HR 5555 the Military Pay Bill. He then met with the Treasury Minister of Australia. The President then has a meeting with Robert McNamara and Maxwell Taylor and others on their return trip to Viet Nam. The President attended a luncheon at the Embassy of Ethiopia in his honor. The President next chaired a National Security Council Meeting.
3 President Kennedy traveled to Little Rock Arkansas. The President took part in the dedication of the Greers Ferry Dam on the Little Red River near Heber Springs, Arkansas. The President then returned to Washington.
4 The President began his day by meeting with David Morse the Director General of the International Labor Organization. Next the President met with the Earl of Home the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Great Britain. Next the President met with Paul Henri Spak the Belgium Foreign Minister. The President then met Governor John Connaly of Texas. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto the Foreign Minister of Pakistan next met with the President. The President next hosted a meeting on events in the Dominican Republic. The Italian Finance Minister Emilio Colombo met with President Kennedy next. The Presidents final meeting of the day was with Vice President Johnson.
5 The President began the day with a meeting with all his top advisors on Vietnam. The President next met with Charles Bohlen the US Ambassador to France. The President then flew to Camp David.
6 President Kennedy, Caroline, and John, Jr. attend Mass at the Camp David Chapel, Maryland.
7 The President returned to Washington. President Kennedy began his day by signing the instrument of ratification for the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. The President next met with his economic team. The Saudi Arabian Ambassador paid a farewell call on the President. After lunch the President met first with Charles Bohlen and then with Couve de Murville the Foreign Minister of France. The President next had a meeting on Brazil to end the day.
8 President Kennedy began his day with a Legislative Leader Breakfast, He then met with Kurt-George Kissinger the President of the German Bundersat. President Kennedy next met with Roy Welensky the Prime Minister of the Federation of Rhodesia. The President next met with his Consumer Advisory Council. President Kennedy next received 49 young Latin American Farm leaders who had complete training in the US. The President had a luncheon with members of the Business Committee and the Special Gifts Committee of the National Cultural Center. After the luncheon the President met Luther Hodges. He then traveled to the State Department to address the National Foreign Policy Conference for Editors and Broadcasters. The President held a meeting with Dean Rusk, McNamara , Taylor, John McCone. The President ended his official day with a meeting on Foreign Aid.
9 President Kennedy had his Pre Press Conference Breakfast. The President then had a short meeting with the Spanish Foreign Minister. Next the President had a meeting on Malaysia. After lunch the President held a Bipartisan Legislative meeting on wheat. The President then went to the State Department to give a press conference. After the press conference the President met with Randolph Churchill.
10 The President began his day by attending the funeral of James McInnersy. On arriving with his office the President met with Senators Fulbright, Church and Symington. The President next met with Hastin Kamuzu Banda the Prime Minister of Nyssaland. Presentation of the Collier Trophy was the next event on the President's schedule. Next the President met with the Prime Minister of the Congo. After Lunch the President met with Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko and Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin. The President completed his day with a meeting with General Kenneth Royall and Earl Blaik.
11 The President started the day with a meeting with Charles Hersky. Next the President met with Roswell Gilpatric and James Webb. The President next met with Bruno Kriesky the Foreign Minister of Austria. The President next hosted a meeting on Berlin. Rusk, McNamara and Bundy were some of the participants. After lunch President Kennedy received American Women, the final report of the President's Commission on the Status of Women. The President had another meeting on Berlin. To conclude the day the President first met with Joe Kraft and then with Holmes Alexander.
12 President Kennedy participated in Columbus Day ceremonies in the White House Flower Garden. he then flew to Camp David
13 President Kennedy, Caroline, and John, Jr. attend Mass at Camp David Chapel, Maryland.
14 President Kennedy spent the day at Camp David with his children( The First Lady was away). At 4:55 he departed to return Washington. After his return he had a meeting with Robert Kennedy, Nicholas Katzenbach, Burke Marshall, Kenneth O'Donnell, and Lawrence O'Brien.
15 The President had a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President met with Donald F Hornig of Princeton University when he arrived at the office. The President met with the new Ambassador of Kuwait. After lunch the President had a meeting with Prime Minister Sean Lemass of Ireland. The President then met with James Farely. The President then hosted a State Dinner in Honor of the Irish Prime Minister.
16 The President met with Dirk Stkker the Secretary General of Nato. The President then had a meeting with advisers to discuss the forthcoming visit of Yugoslav President Tito to the United States. The President me with Dewey Daane. The President had a meeting on the Alliance for Progress. The President then attended a reception given his honor by the Irish Prime Minister.
17 The President began his day by signing HR 4842 a Bill to Amend the Federal Credit Union Act. The President then met with Garfield Barwick the Australian Minister of External Affairs. The President then had a meeting on the Shoe Industry. The President then met with President Josip Broz Tito of Yugoslavia. The President hosted a luncheon in honor of Tito. The President had another meeting with President Tito after Lunch.
18 President Kennedy received the Illinois Trade Mission to Europe. The President a group from New Haven. The President is met with General Omar Bradley. The President next met Ahmadou Ahidjo the President of Cameroon. The President met with Charles Bartlett andn Al McDonald. After Lunch the President met a delegates of the US Japan Cultural Conference. The President met with group from the National Historic Society. He then met with Robert McNamara and Jack Bell.
19 The President's flew to Maine and spoke at the convocation of the University of Maine. The President then flew to Boston the see the Harvard Columbia game. The President visited the grave of his son. In the evening the President spoke at a Fund Raising Dinner for the Democratic Party.
20 President Kennedy rests in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
21 President Kennedy returned to Washington. The President met with Aristide Issembe the new Ambassador of Gabon. After lunch the President met with James Gavin. Next the President had a meeting with senior foreign policy and defense advisers to discuss Berlin. The President met with Luther Hodges. The President ended his days with a meeting with Arthur Ochs Sulzberger.
22 The President began the day with a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President next had a meeting with Senator Ernest Grueing. The President next met with Gaetano Martino the President of the European Parliament. The President hosted a luncheon in honor of President Paz of Bolivia. After the luncheon the President addressed the convocation of the National Academy of Sciences. The President next met with the President of Bolivia. The President met with Justice Goldberg, and Senator Ribicoff. the Presidents final meeting was with Robert Kennedy, Burke Marshall, Nicholas Katzenbach and Lawrence O'Brien.
23 The President began the day with a meeting with Stewart Udall. He then met with Rene Maheu the Director General of UNESCO. The President next met with George Meany and Andrew Biemiller. The Presidents next meeting was with Ralph Loecher the Mayor of Cleveland. The President then met with William Randolph Hearst. After taking a swim the President traveled to Embassy of Bolivia for a Luncheon. After returning to the White House the President had a meeting with President Victor Paz Estenssoro of Bolivia. The President then met with Dean Acheson. The President last meeting of the day was with LBJ, and Congressmen: John McCormack, Carl Albert, Emanuel Cellar, Charles Halleck, William McCulloch and Leslie Arends.
24 The President hosted a large meeting with Congressmen on Civil Rights Legislation. He next met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Ecuador. The President next met with Dean Rusk, Roswell Gilparic, Paul Nitze and General Maxwell Taylor. The signed HR 7544 Maternal and Child Health Mental Retardation Planning Amendments. The President then addressed the annual Convention Luncheon of the National Associations for Retarded Children . After lunch the President met Congressman Clement Zablocki. The President ends the day with a meeting Douglas Dillon.
25 President Kennedy met with Stewart Udall, John Carver, Anthony Solomon and Governor Rex Lee of American Samoa. The President had a meeting with Robert Kennedy, Robert McNamara, John McCone, and McGeorge Bundy to discuss Vietnam. The President next met with Douglas Dillon Congressman Wilbur Mills and Lawrence O'Brien. Next the President met with Horace Torbert the US Ambassador to Somalia. The President next met with Thomas Watson Jr of IBM. The President hosted a Luncheon for Radio Free Europe Fund.
26 President Kennedy traveled to Amherst College were he spoke at a convocation. He then spoke at the location of the future Robert Frost Memorial Library. The President returned to Washington and went to the residence in Atoka Virginia.
27 President Kennedy, Mrs. Kennedy, Caroline, and John, Jr. attend Mass near their new home, Atoka, Virginia
28 The President returned to the White House. In the morning he conferred with his staff. After lunch he had a meeting with a select group of Congressmen on Civil Rights Legislation. He then had a meeting with advisers to discuss Yemen, Morocco, and Algeria. The President ended the day with a meeting with Cecil King, Ralph Chapman, Derrck Dale and Prierre Salinger.
29 President Kennedy began the day with a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President had a meeting with Congressman on Civil Rights Legislation. The President met with the Cabinet. The President was next presented with an album of Sir Winston Churchill's Speeches. After Lunch the President had a meeting with Vice President Johnson, Dean Rusk, Robert McNamara and senior advisers to discuss Vietnam.
30 The President began his day with a meeting with Senator Symington, Senator Long and Congressman Bolling, The President met with Committee on Labor Management Policy. The President had a meeting on Viet Nam with Rusk, McNamara, Harriman, McCone, Taylor and Forrestal. The President next met with Senator Wayne Morse. President Kennedy then met with Edward McDermont. After lunch the President traveled to Philadelphia and spoke at a fund raising dinner for the Democratic Committee.
31 The President began his day with a Pre Press Conference Breakfast. President Kennedy hosted a signing ceremony for S1576 to authorize construction of mental health facilities and community mental health centers. The President then had a meeting with Douglas Dillon, George Ball, Franklin Roosevelt Jr, Christian Herter, Abam Chayes, McGeorge Bundy . The President had lunch with J Edgar Hoover. The President then went to the State Department and gave a Press Conference. The President last two meetings of the day was with Marquis Childs and then with Robert Kennedy and Burke Marshall.
