October 1961- President Kennedy's Schedule


 

1 The President and First Lady attended church in St Mary's Church. In the afternoon they went boating on the Honey Fritz with Senator Claiborne Pell and Mrs Pell, Mr and Mrs Franklin D Roosevelt Jr and Mr William Walton
2 The President and First Family went boating in the morning. Late in the afternoon the President returned to Washington. President Kennedy met with Dean Rusk and McGeorge Bundy when he arrived back at the White House.
3 The President began the day with an off the record meeting with Osborne Elliot. He then met with the Foreign Minister of Thailand. The Presidents next meeting was with Robert McNamara, General Lemintzer, Paul Nitze, General Taylor, McGeorge Bundy and Dean Rusk. The President then attended the swearing-in ceremony for Fowler Hamilton administrator of the AID. The President gave a speech in honor of the publication of the Diary and Autobiography of John Adams. The President then returned to the White House and greeted 120 churchmen of the United Presbyterian Church. The President then met with Meeting with Robert McNamara, Dean Rusk, Foy Kohler, Maxwell Taylor, McGeorge Bundy, Lyman Lemnitzer, and Lauris Norstad. President Kennedy then had an off the record meeting with Mr C. L Sulzberger of the New York Times and ended the day with a meeting with Douglas Dillon.
4 The President met with General Taylor and Clifton as well as McGeorge Bundy and Richard Goodwin. The President met with the US Ambassador to Sudan as well State Department officials who dealt with North Africa. The President then met with Mohammed Hashim Majwandwal Ambassador of Afghanistan. The President flew to Andrews Air Force base to greet El Ferik Ibrahim Abboud the President of the Republic of Sudan. The President had an off the record meeting with Chester Bowles. The President then met with the US Advisory Commission on Information . The President met with Douglas Dillon, David Bell, Walter Heller and Theodore Sorensen. The President and First Lady gave a dinner in honor of President El Ferik Ibrahim Abboud of the Republic of Sudan.
5 After meeting with his advisors President Kennedy met with the President of Sudan and his party. The President then had an off the record meeting wit George Ball, George McGhee, Wymberley Coerr, John Martin, James Hill, Arthur Schlesinger, and Richard Goodwin. The President the met with Richard Hughes of New Jersey. He then met with met Maxwell Taylor, McGeorge Bundy, and General Chester Clifton. The President had a luncheon with Robert Sarnoff Chairman of NBC, William Paley Chairman of CBS, Leonard Goldemon Chairman of ABC, LeRoy Collins of the National Associations of Broadcasters and Edward R Murrow, and director of USIA. After lunch the President met with the Finance Minister of India and his party. The President then met with Dr James Killian, General Maxwell and Clark Clifford. The President ended the day with an off the record meeting with Hon Averell Harriman, Alexis Johnson and Walt Rostow.
6 The President began his day with a meeting with McNamara, Bundy and Pittman. The President then met with Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York. He then met with Robert McNamara. The President then met with John McCloy. The President's next meeting was with George Meany, President of the AFL-CIO. The President next met with a delegation of Greek Orthodox Church. The President had a luncheon with publishers of New Jersey newspapers. The President had a meeting with the President of Sudan. In advance of a meeting with Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko the President met with Rusk, Bohlne, Kohler, Bundy, Sorensen and Alexander Akolovsky the interpreter. The President then had a two hour meeting with Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko. In the evening the President attended a dinner in his honor hosted by the President of Sudan.
7 The President and First Lady flew to Newport.
8 The President and First Lady attended church in St Mary's Church. In the afternoon they went boating on the Honey Fritz.
9 The President and the First Family went boating in the morning. President, Mrs. Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, and guests viewed exercises of the U.S. submarine Corsair from the Honey Fitz. Newport, Rhode Island. The President then left for Dallas Texas were he visited House Speaker Sam Rayburn who was hospitalized. The President then returned to Washington.
10 The President had an off the record breakfast with Lady Jackson. He then met with the Foreign Minister of Chile and his party. The President had an off the record meeting with Congressman Porter Harry and John Monagan. He then had a long off the record meeting with; Rusk, McNamara, Lemnitzer, Nitze, Kohler, Hillenbrand, Maxwell Taylor and McGeorge Bundy. After lunch the President met with General Van Flee and Elvia Stahr. The President then met with Duchell Molly Buccleuch. The President and First Lady hosted a reception for the Judicial Branch. In the evening the President then attended a private dinner at the home of Joseph Alsop.
11 The President began his day with a meeting with Taylor, Bundy, O'Donnel and Clifon. The President then met with the Finance Minister of Venezuela. The President then had a meeting with Rusk, McNamara, Lemnitzer, Nitze,Dulles, Cottress , Wilson, George Ball, Roswell Gilpatric and McGeorge Bundy. The President then prepared for his afternoon press conference. The President had an off the record lunch with Arthur Krock. The President gave a Press Conference covered on live TV and Radio. The President had an off the record meeting with Joseph Alsop
12 The President traveled to Chapel Hill North Carolina and received an honorary degree and gave a speech. The President traveled to Fort Bragg and toured the base and met with the troops. The President then returned to Washington.
13 After the President received a briefing from his advisors he met with the officers of the National Trucking Association. He then met with Dr Glenn Seaborg the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. The President then chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the situation in Vietnam. After the meeting with President had an off the record meeting with General Lemnitzer. The President hosted a luncheon for Missouri Publishers. After lunch the President met with Douglas Dillon. He then left the Washington and traveled to Hyannis Port.
14 President and Mrs. Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, and LeMoyne Billings cruise aboard the Honey Fitz. Hyannis Port, Massachusetts
15 The President and the First Lady attended St Francis Xavier Church. The First Family relaxed the rest of the family.
16 The President and Mrs Kennedy returned to Washington. When they arrived they greeted the President of Finland's Urho Kekkosen and his wife on arrival for a state visit. The President had an off the record meeting with Rusk, Ball, Llewellyn Thomspon, Bohlen and Bundy. The President and First Lady hosted a White House luncheon in honor of the President of Finland. After the luncheon the President met with the President of Finland and his party. The President ended his official day with an off the record with Rev Martin Luther King.
17 The President began his day with Bell, Sorensen and Heller. The President then met with Senator Joseph Clark. Next the President met with the Chief Minister of Uganda. The President then met with Senator Kerr and Governor Edmondson of Oklahoma. The President met with the Football Hall of Fame. The President then met with the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. The President had an off the record meeting with the President of Finland. The President and the First Lady had dinner with Dr and Mrs Arthur Schlesinger. The two couples then went to Constitution Hall to hear a concert by the National Symphony Concert.
18 The President met with the US Ambassador to Liberia and the state department officials who dealt with Liberia. The President then met with Clyde Weed C.M Brickerhoff, and Cy Parkinson of the Anaconda Company together with Senator Mike Mansfield. The President then met with Roberto de Oliveira the new Ambassador from Brazil. The President met with the Panel on Mental Retardation.
19 The President went to the Marine Air Terminal to greet William VS Tubmna the President of Liberia. After returning to the White House the President met with the President of Liberia and his party. The President then gave a luncheon in honor of the President of Liberia. The President had an off the record meetings with Dennis Roberts and Clarence Randall. The President also met with Walter Heller. The President ended his day with reception for the Inter American Press Association.
20 The President began his with a meeting with Robert McNamara, Dean Rusk, Foy Kohler, McGeorge Bundy, Lyman Lemnitzer, RFK, Rosewell Gilpatric, Martin Hilliband and Allen Dulles. The President then met with Supreme Court Justice William Douglas. . He then met with Hale Boggs . The President then hosted a luncheon for the publishers of the State of Washington. The President and First Lady traveled to Newport RI.
21 President Kennedy, Mrs. Kennedy, and Caroline Kennedy cruise aboard the Honey Fitz. Newport, Rhode Island
22 The President and Mrs Kennedy attended church at St Mary's. The President went boating on the Honey Fritz, Ambassador Stevenson joined him.
23 In the morning the President took a short sail, In the afternoon the President returned to Washington.
24 The President met with Wihelm Orewe the Ambassador of Germany. The President then met with McGeorge Bundy. The President then met Pierre Lazareff the Publisher of Frace Soir. The President met with Senator Gore. The President then held a meeting on AID.
25 The President met with Governor of Pennsylvania David Lawrence. The President met with the Premier of British Guiana. The President then met with Carl Sandburg and Stewart Udall. In the afternoon the President met with representatives of the American Farm Bureau Federation. The President then met with Chester Bowles. He then ended the official day with a meeting with John McCone.
26 The President began the day with an off the record meeting with David Bell and Elmer Staat. He then hosted a cabinet meeting. The President met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Haiti. The President had lunch wit Douglas Dillon, Eugene Black, George Ball, Fowler, Hamilton, David Bell and Harold Linder, Arthur Goldberg, Abraham Ribicoff, Phillip Klutznick, Abraham Feinberg and Myer Feldman. After lunch the President had a meeting on the Trade Program. The President then met with David Ormsby Gore the new British Ambassador
27 The President met with New York City Mayor Robert Wagner, Rep. James Delaney, and New York World's Fair President Robert Moses. The President then had a meeting on exports. The President met with US Ambassador France. The President then had a luncheon for Texas Publishers. After lunch the President met with :Rusk, Kohler, Bundy, McNamara, Lemnitzer, Nitze and Hllibrand. In the evening the President went to the Armory to attend the National Horse Show.
28 The President had an off the record meeting with Douglas Carter. He also had a meeting with Dean Rusk.
29 The President and the First Lady attended mass at St Stephen's church. The President then traveled to Fort Smith Arkansas. There he helped rededicate the historic Fort Smith. President Kennedy opened the Ouachita National Forest Road in Big Cedar, Oklahoma and stays overnight at the ranch of Senator Robert Kerr
30 The President returned to Washington. He met with Senator Henry M Jackson.
31 The President had an off the record meeting with Congressman Wayne Hays. The President spent most of the morning meeting with aides. After lunch he met with Clark Mollenhoff. The President then had an off the record meeting with William Stoneman of the Chicago Daily News. The President's last meeting of the day was with Jay Gildner.
