March 1962- President Kennedy's Schedule


 

1 The President began the day by attending the 10th annual Prayer Breakfast that took place at the Mayflower Hotel. When the President returned to the White House he greeted representatives of the American Legion. The President government met with Dean Rusk and then with his security advisors. The President met with Edward Mason before his trip to the United Arab Republic. The President met with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The President had an off the record meeting with Rusk, Kennedy, Ball, Harriman, McGhee, Cleveland, Tyler, Rice, Bundy, Kower. The President ended his official day with a meeting with James Gavin US Ambassador to France
2 The President met with Congressman and Mrs Thompson. After meeting with his advisors the President greeted the winners of the White House News Photographers Annual Award. The President then met with John Martin the new US Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Next the President met with the Ambassador from Japan. After lunch the President had a Bipartisan Legislative Meeting. The President met with the Foreign Minister of the Netherlands. In the evening the President spoke to the American people on the resumption of Nuclear testing.
3 The President began his day with a meeting with General Maxwell Taylor. The President had a meeting with Bobby Baker. The President had a meeting on Chile with Richard Goodwin, George Ball, Fowler Hamilton, Ralph Dungan, Robert Woodward, and  Téodoro Moscoso. In the afternoon the President flew to Glen Ora.
4 President Kennedy attends Mass at Middleburg, Virginia Community Center and returned to Glen Ora.
5 The President returned to Washington. He first met with his advisors. Then the President met the winners of the 21st Annual Science Talent Search. The President the met with new Ambassador of Morocco. the President had a meeting about Counter-insurgency strategy. The President then had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Thailand At the end of the day the President had an off the record meeting with Henry Luce.
6 The President had a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President met with Senator Hubert Humphrey and Dr Sidney Goldsmith. The President then met with Congressman Clark Thompson. The President met with member of the Gridion Clubs. After lunch the President met with the Ambassador of France and 19 guests that he brought. The President then had a nearly two hour meeting on disarmament. The meeting was attended by the complete national security team.
7 President Kennedy had a breakfast meeting with LBJ, Dean Rusk, Sorensen, McGeorge Bundy, Salinger, and Feldman. The President next addressed the 18th Annual Washington Meeting of the Advertising Council. The President then met with Congressman Tom Steed of Oklahoma. The President next met with Ambassador of Jordan. The President next met with Bundy, Kaysen, Sorensen, Schlesinger and Heller. The President met with Sander Vanocour. After lunch the President gave a Press Conference. After the Press Conference the President met with Tom Wicker of the New York Times. The President then had an off the record meeting on Berlin with LBJ, Rusk, Kohler, Bundy, Sorenson, Taylor, and Hillenbrand. In the evening the President had an off the record dinner with Charles Bartlett at the White House.
8 The President began his day meeting Stewart Udall, Senator Pastores and Senator Claiborne Pell. The President accompanied the First Lady to the Marine Air Terminal to wish her well on her trip to India and Pakistan. When the President returned to White House he met with Senators Mike Mansfield and Senator Clinton Anderson. The President met with Ted Kennedy his brother. The Presidents last meeting of the official day was with Henry Shapiro and Stanley Johnson, Moscow correspondents for UPI and AP.
9 President Kennedy began his day with a meeting with the new Ambassador of the Cameroon. He then had a meeting with Fowler Hamilton, Frank Coffin, Walter Dingle, Hollis Chernry, George Ball and William Gaud. The President then met with the Advisory Council to the GATT negotiations. The President next met with Kenneth Todd Young the US Ambassador to Thailand. The President then had a large meeting with his defense advisors including LBJ, Rusk on disarmament. In the afternoon the President and his children left for Palm Beach. He visited his Father and left his children with their grandparents and then proceeded to Miami were he spent the night.
10 The President took a cruise on the Honey Fritz in the afternoon. In the evening the President gave an address at a fund raising dinner for Senator Smather.
11 President Kennedy went to church in the morning, then went cruising on the Honey Fritz. He traveled to Palm Beach and spent time with his Father and children and then joined RFK on a trip back to Washington.
12 The President first met with his advisors. He then met with the US Ambassador to the Cameroon. the President met with former Congressman Aime Forand and Adolph Held who invited the President to attend a rally for the aged in Madison Square Garden. The President made a statement accepting the invitation. The President then met with Congressman John Fogarty. After lunch the President had an off the record meeting with Arthur Goldberg and labor leaders. The Presidents' last public meeting was with Douglas Dillon.
13 President Kennedy began his day with a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President had an off the record meeting with Senator Robert Kerr. The President traveled to the Marine Air Terminal were he greeted President Ahmadou Ahidjo of the Cameroon. The President after returning to the White House met with representatives of American Associations for the United Nations. The President hosted a luncheon for President Ahmadou Ahidjo of the Cameroon. Following the luncheon the President had a meeting with the Cameroon President and his entourage. The President had a reception for Latin American diplomats.
14 The President had breakfast with LBJ, Theodore Sorensen, Pierre Salinger, George Ball, Walter Heller and Myer Feldman. The President had a meeting on the Congo meeting with Sture Linner the UN official previously in charge of UN affairs in the Congo. The President met with the US Ambassador to Peru with other officials dealing with South American affairs. He then met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia. The President attended a luncheon given in is honor by President Ahmadou Ahidjo of the Cameroon. The President then gave a press conference. The President of the Cameroon's had a short meeting with the President. Late in the afternoon the President met with James Webb of NASA. In the evening the President went a St Patrick's Party .
15 The President met with Senator Dennis Chavez. The President then signed the Manpower and Training Act of 1962. The President next met with William Baron the Governor of West Virginia. Next the President met with Thomas Mann the US Ambassador to Mexico. The President then met with the 1962 Easter Seal Child. The President met with John McCone and General Maxwell Taylor. After lunch the President met with Senators Frank Church and Frank Moss as well as Congressman Ralph Harding and David King. At the end of the day the President had a series of meeting with Robert McNamara and other defense officials.
16 President Kennedy had a meeting with Senator Russel Long. He then met Walter McConaughy the US Ambassador to Pakistan. The President next met with Senator Wayne Morse and Senator Antonio Bermudez of Mexico. He then met with Roy Roberts of the Kansas City Star, followed by Congressman Wilbur Mills. President Kennedy had a luncheon in the White House for Editors and Publisher from Michigan. The President had an off the record meeting with Taylor, Bundy, McNamara, RFK, Gilpatric, Alexis Johnson, General Lemnitzer, McCone, General Lansdale, and Richard Helms. The President had an off the record meeting wit Hugh Fraser a member of the House of Commons.
17 The President began his day with a meeting with Ambassador of Ireland Thomas J. Kiernan. The President met with his advisors and then met with Marshal Field Jr. The President next met with Lady Jackson and Florence Mahoney. The President had lunch with Richard Rovere. In the evening the President attended the Gridion Club Dinner at the Statler Hilton Hotel.
18 President Kennedy attends Mass at St. Stephen's Church.
19 The President met with Ellesworth Bunker the former US Ambassador to India. He then met with Congressman Cecil King. The President met with the US Ambassador to Togo and the state department officials in charge of African relations. After meeting with his advisors the President had lunch with Joseph Alsop. After lunch the President met with Dr. Erich Mende, Chairman of the Free Democratic Party of West Germany. The President last meeting of the day was with Hodges, Bell Gordon, Martin White and Feldman.
20 A Legislative Leaders Breakfast kicked off the Presidents day. The President signed HR 8723 the Welfare and Pension Disclosure Act. The President then traveled to the Marine Air Terminal to meet President Sylvanus Olympio of Togo. On returning to the White House the President met with Douglas Dillon. The President had brief meeting with the US Ambassador to Ceylon and then one with the British Ambassador to the US. The President hosted a Luncheon in honor of President Sylvanus Olympio of Togo After the luncheon the President met with the Togo President. The President's last meeting in the Oval Office was with Defense Secretary McNamara. In the mansion the President met with Robert Kennedy and Clark Clifford.
21 The President had breakfast with LBJ, Theodore Sorensen, Pierre Salinger, George Ball, McGeorge Bundy, Walter Heller and Myer Feldman. The President met with Congressman Jack Brocks. After meeting with his aids the President went to the Blair House for a luncheon given in his honor by the President of Togo. The President gave a press conference. After the conference the President returned from the State Department and met wit the President of Togo.
22 The President began his day with a meeting with Governor Richard Hughes of New Jersey. The President then had an off the record meeting with Hugo Gouthier the Brazilian Ambassador to Italy. After meeting with his economic team the President met with the Ambassador from Mexico followed by the ambassador from Thailand. The President then had a meeting with Edward Mason who reported on his trip to the United Arab Republic(Egypt). The President met with Marian Anderson and Ethel Kennedy. The President had lunch at the mansion with J Edgar Hoover. In the afternoon the President met with the US Ambassador to Italy.
23 The President flew to California. His first stop was the University of California at Berkely. He visited the Radiation Lab and met scientists from the Lawrence Livermore Lab. The President then spoke at a ceremony honoring the Charter Anniversary. The President then visited Vandenburg Air Force Base, where he inspected the launch facilities. The President then went to Palm Beach were he spent the night at the home of Bing Crosby
24 President Kennedy visited former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Palms Springs, California.
25 President Kennedy and Dave Powers attend Mass at the Sacred Heart Church. Palm Springs, California. At night the President departed for Washington.
26 The President returned to Washington from Palm Springs on Air Force 1. The President's first meeting was with General Lauris Norstad. He then met with Indira Ghandi. The President then presented the Congressional medal to poet Robert Frost. The President next met with Robert Briscoe the Lord Mayor of Dublin together with the Ambassador of Ireland. The President had lunch with Jean Monnet, Robert McNamara, George Ball and McGeorge Bundy. After lunch the President met with General Alfre Starbird the Chairman of the Task force on Atomic Testing. The President next met with a Brazilian delegation. The Presidents last official meeting was with Louis Selter and Senator Frank Lacsche.
27 President Kennedy began the day with a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President then met with the US Ambassador to Chile. He then hosted an off the record meeting with a group of Army officers assigned to Vietnam, Thailand and Laos. He then met with Ambassador ohn Tuthill the US representative to the Organization of Economic Cooperation. President Kennedy had a meeting with a group of physicians concerning medical care for the aged. In the afternoon the President addressed the 800 delegates attending the Conference on Foreign Policy Briefing.
28 The President began his day with a brief meeting with the outgoing Ambassador of Mali. He then met with Dean Rusk. The President next chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the Geneva disarmament talks. The President next presented awards for exporters. The President had a meeting with Senator John Carrel and Former Governor Edwin Johnson. The President had a meeting with Congressman Charles Buckley. He later had an off the record meeting with author Theodore White.
29 The President began the day with Pre Press Conference Breakfast with the VP, Rusk, Ball, Bundy, Sorensen, Salinger and Heller. The President gave a press conference. He then met with the Presidents of the National Research Councils of the Americas. The President went on the meet member of the Inter-American Defense Board. In the afternoon the President met with Congressman Emanuel Cellar, Governor David Lawrence, David Bell, Senator Thomas Kuchell as well as Averell Harriman. In the evening the President traveled to the Marine Air Terminal to greet Jackie who was returning from her trip to India and Pakistan.
30 The President after meeting with his advisors met with the Ambassador of the Central African Republic. He then me with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The President next met with Congressman Bailey of West Virginia. President Kennedy next met with the Ambassador of the Soviet Union. The President had a Luncheon for Editors and Publishers of Pennsylvania newspapers. In the afternoon the President had a meeting with his foreign policy advisors to discuss Iran.
31 The President met with Stephen McNichols the Governor of Colorado. He then had a meeting with Meeting with Averell Harriman, John McCone, Ray Cline, Roger Hilsman, Michael Forrestal, and McGeorge Bundy. The President left for Glen Ora.
