Kosovo Declares Independence

Civil War in Former Yugoslavia.

On February 17th 2008 Kosovo decleared its independence. Kosovo had been part of the former Yugoslovia and had broken with Serbia. It was under UN protection. Kosovo is ethincially Albanian, with the majority of its citizens being Muslim. There was fear that its decleration could lead to a resumption of war in the Balkans.
