Montesquieu, Charles de

 

 

Montesquieu, Charles de (1689-1755) - French political theorist who analyzed different government constitutions and developed the theory upon which the separation of powers is based. His most famous work was De l'esprit des lois (The Spirit of the Laws), published in 1748.
