Mauritanian Army Overthrow President Taya

On August 3rd 2005 the Mauritanian military launched a coup against their long serving President Masouys Ould. The military claimed they were ending the President's "totalitarian rule". The coup was bloodless. Ould had ruled for 21 years and had been out of the country attending the funeral of Saudi Arabia's King Fadh.
