Max Planck 1858- 1947 Physicist Max Planck was the originator of quantum theory, for which he was honored with the 1918 Nobel Prize for physics. Born and educated in Germany, Planck was associated with the University of Berlin from 1889 to 1928, when he retired. The discovery of quantum theory revolutionized physics, and the theory was further investigated and used by Einstein and Bohr, among others in the early part of the century.
