April 1962- President Kennedy's Schedule

1 President and Mrs. Kennedy attend Mass at Middleburg, Virginia, Community Center and return to Glen Ora
2 The President returned to the White House. He had an off the record meeting relating to the upcoming visit of the Brazilian President with Lincoln Gordon, Téodoro Moscoso, Edwin Martin, Richard Goodwin, Harvey Wellman, Jackson Wilson, and Arthur M. Schlesinger. The President next met with Robert Wagner, mayor of New York. The President met with members of the General Advisory Committee of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. The President had a meeting with David Schoenbrun. The President met with John McCone and Richard Helms of the CIA. He then met with Dean Acheson. The President attended a reception given by Senator Mansfield at the Capital.
3 The President had a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President then met with his Committee on Equal Opportunity to receive their report. The President went to Andrews Air Force Base to receive President Joao Goulart of Brazil. The President gave a luncheon in honor of President Joao Goulart of Brazil. After the luncheon the President met with William Porter the US Consul in Algiers. The President ended his day with a meeting with Theodore White.
4 President Kennedy began his day meeting the Representatives of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. He then met with Harve Alpand the ambassador of France. The President then met with the Brazilian President and his party. The President next met with Congressman Emanuel Cellar. The President later met the members of the National Export Expansion Council. The President met with Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic. President Kennedy attended a luncheon given in his honor at the Embassy of Brazil by President Joao Goulart. After the luncheon the President returned to the White House and met with the Brazilian President and his party.
5 The President began his day with a Cabinet meeting. He then traveled to the State Department to address a group of staff members of the Agency for International Development. The President met with the US Advisory Commission on International Educational and Cultural Affairs. After lunch the President met with Richard Hughes governor of New Jersey, Senator Robert Kerr, William Battle and Congresswoman Edith Green.
6 The President met with Douglas MacArthur II the US Ambassador to Belgium. He then met with the US Ambassador to the Soviet Union Llewellyn Thompson. His next meeting was on Nuclear armaments and included Glenn Seaborg the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. That meeting grew to an extended meeting on the state of nuclear arms talks with Dean Rusk McGeorge Bund and other members of the foreign policy team joined the discussion. The President then met with Hosein Qods Nakhai the Ambassador of Iran. After lunch which was with Edith Smith the Duchess of Devonshire the President met with a series of his advisors.
7 The President began his day with a meeting with Artor Morales Carrion, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs. The President then had a meeting with Bundy, Ball, Kohler, Hillenbrand, Llewellyn Thompson, LBJ, RFK and Sorensen.
8 President Kennedy attends Mass at Holy Trinity Church.
9 President Kennedy addressed the 50 anniversary celebration of the Children's Bureau. The President then signed a proclomation declaring the week of April 9th Voluntary Overseas Giving Week. The President met with the Executive Committee of the Manufacturing Chemists. The President then attended opening day baseball game at Griffith Stadium. On returning to the White House the President met with the Ambassador of Laos. that meeting was followed by a meeting reviewing the situation in South East Asia attended by Rusk, McNamara and the larger national security team.
10 The President had a Legislative Leaders Breakfast to start the day. He then met with Julius Holmes the US Ambassador to Iran. The President next met Congressman Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. The President presented the Big Brother of the year awards. After lunch the President met with Miro Carcona the chairman of the Cuban Revolutionary Council. Starting at 9:30 PM the President and the First Lady hosted a black Tie reception for Congressmen.
11 President Kennedy had breakfast with Johnson, Rusk, Bundy,Feldman, Hatcher, Heller and Sorensen. The President next had a meeting with Congressman Sidney Yates. The President met with a delegation representing state legislatures who invited him to speak at their next conference. The President then met with Congresswomen Edith Green. The President and the First Lady traveled to the Marine Air Terminal to greet the Shah of Iran and his wife upon their arrival for a state visit. After accompanying the Shah to Blair House and having lunch the President headed to the State Department to deliver his 30th news conference. At this conference he attacked the Steel Companies for raising the price of steel. The President then met separately with the Ambassadors of Argentina and Venezuela. In the evening the President gave a state dinner in honor of the Shah of Iran and his wife.
12 The President began his day with a meeting on the steel situation with McNamara, Luther Hodges, Arthur Goldberg, Walter Heller, Henry Fowler, Robert Kennedy and Theodore Sorensen. The President then had a meeting with Shah Reza Pahlavi of Iran. The President next met with Congressman Oren Harris and then Congressman Gene Krogh. The President then hosted a luncheon in honor of Walter Hallstein President of the Common Market Commission. The President then had a meeting with General Lucius Clay. That meeting was followed by large meeting on disarmament with all the key players The President then had a meeting with Rusk, McNamara and Bundy. In the evening the President and First Lady attended the dinner in their honor at the Iranian Embassy.
13 President Kennedy had another meeting with the Shah or Iran and his party. The President then had a meeting with Robert Kennedy, Nicholas Katenbach and Archibald Cox. The President then traveled to Norfolk Virginia to the naval base there. He received a tour of the base, boarded the nuclear sub Thomas Edison and then President Kennedy boarded the U.S.S. Northampton for an overnight cruise to view fleet exercises.
14 The President departed the USS Northampton and transferred to the USS Enterprise the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. On the Enterprise he spoke to the crew. The President then traveled to Camp Lejeune their President Kennedy and the Shah of Iran watched military exercises and toured Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The President ended his day at Glen Ora.
15 The President Kennedy attends Mass at the Middleburg, Virginia, Community Center and returns to Glen Ora.
16 President Kennedy returned to Washington. After briefly stopping off at the White House he traveled to the Supreme Court where he attended the swearing in ceremony of Byron White the new Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Upon his return from the Supreme Court the President met with Rusk McNamara, Ball, Taylor, Bund and Kohler. The President then met with Congressman Frank Thomspon. The President then had a meeting on the steel situation with RFK, Heller, Goldberg, Clifford and Sorensen. After lunch the President and First Lady greeted young people attending a concert on the South Lawn by the Boston Youth Symphony. The President then met with Senator Albert Gore. He then met with General Lemnitzer. The President met with Hank Suydan of Life Magazine.
17 The President had a Legislative Leaders Breakfast to start the day. Upon arriving in the office the President met with Arnol Heeney the Ambassador of Canada. The President received a medal from the Civil War Centennial Commission. The President was presented with the 1961 Volume of the Public Papers of the President. the President met with California legislators. The President then met with Jack Anderson and Jess Gookim. After Lunch the President met with Goldberg, Heller, Gudemans, Sorensen and Gordon. He then met with George Meany and George Harrison. The President then met with his military advisors to discuss Laos. Next the President met with Bipartisan Congressional Leaders to discuss Laos. The President and first lady had a private dinner for the Indian Ambassador and his wife.
18 President Kennedy had breakfast with the VP, Dean Rusk, Andrew Hatcher, Theodore Sorensen, Walter Heller, McGeorge Bundy and Myer Feldman. On arriving at the office the President met with David Bell the Director of the Budget. He then met with Senator McGouson and Jackson of Washington State. The President then met with George McGovern director of the Food For Peace Program. He them met with the chair and executive director of the Commission on campaign costs. The President then had a Press Conference. After the Press Conference the President chaired a National Security Council Meeting. The President then met with Robert Kennedy before departing for Palm Beach for East Holiday.

27 The President and his party departed Palm Beach in the middle of the afternoon for Washington. One in Washington the President Greeted British Prime Minister Macmillan. After briefly greeting the Roger Maris who was acting as the National Campaign Chair of the MS Society, the President had an off the record meeting with Robert Kennedy, Arthur Goldberg and others from the staff. The President attended the White House Correspondents Dinner.
28 The President began the day with Pre Press Conference Breakfast with the , Rusk, Ball, Bundy, McNamara, Tyler and Nite. The President then met with the descendants of Civil War veterans who won the Congressional medal of honor. The President spent the rest of the morning meeting British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and his party. The President gave a luncheon in honor of the Prime Minister. Meetings with the Prime Minister continued throughout the afternoon. In the evening the British Prime Minister gave a dinner at the British Embassy in honor of the President.
29 The President and First Lady attended church at Holy Trinity. They had lunch in the White House with Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and Ambassador David Ormsby Gore and his wife. In the evening the President and First Lady hosted a dinner in the White House foe Nobel Prize Winners.
30 The President began his day with an address before the US Chamber of Congress. The President met with a delegation from the American Jewish Committee. After Lunch the President met with Senator Robert Kerr. He also met with George Hunt the editor of life magazine.
