Georgi Zhukov

1896- 1974

Russian Soldier

Soviet military leader Georgi Konstantinovich Zhukov joined the Red Army in 1918, rising steadily through the ranks. Soon after the German attack on the Soviet Union in 1941, Zhukov became the leading Soviet commander.

He successfully defended Moscow, led the counterattack at Stalingrad and lifted the siege of Leningrad. Zhukov led Soviet troops across Poland and on to Berlin.
