| The election of 1860 was a four way race among John Breckinridge (run by the Southern Democrats); John Bell (for the Union party); and Stephen Douglas (as the Democratic party candidate), and of course, Licoln (the candidate of the Republicans). Lincoln won a plurality of the popular votes and a majority of the electoral votes. |
