Day Seventy Six April 6, 2009

The President spent the day in Turkey. His first activity of the day was placing a wreath on the tomb of Ataturak's-the father of modern Turkey. The President then had a private meeting with President Gul. That meeting was expanded to a larger meeting with staffs. The two Presidents then made a statement to the assembled press. Statement

At 3:30 the President Obama addressed the Turkish Grand National Assembly. In that address that was carried widely in the Muslim world the President reached out to the Muslim world and made it clear that the United States was committed to a two state solution between Israel and the Palestinians and asked for Turkish support. After speaking to the parliament the President met with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan.
