The first Riverside, a wooden, schooner-rigged barge, was built during 1890 at Brooklyn, N.Y., and rented during late 1917 by the U S. Navy Bllreau ot Supplies and Aecounts from S. W. Cole & Co. of New York. Riversidc was assigned to local transport and storage duty at the Norfolk Navy Yard until returned to her owner 12 November 1920.
