HistoryCentral · Primary Source & History.

The Republican held their primary in Michigan on January 15th 2008. For Governor Romney who was born in Michigan it was a do or die primary. Romney calibrated his campaign to the economic concerns of Michigan voters. He won a decisive victory. His major opponent Senator John McCain had the momentum going into the state after winning the NH primary the week before. McCain however, was unable to develop an economic message that appealed to Michigan voters. McCain said that while the economy was strong auto jobs were not coming back to Michigan. Romney said he would fight over ever job.
